Concept

This little bulbasaur’s shell will open when spun. My friend uses his to store DnD dice, which I find very appropriate.

On the Backs of Giants

The impressive design elements in the little fella are not my own. The amazing print-in-place mechanical iris was made by Frank Zhao who in turn adapted it from another. The bulbasaur base was drawn by Matt Lake. I merely resized the bulba and cut out the pocket for the iris.

Publicly available

The 3D drawings and printable files of this bulba-jar are publicly available via Onshape. I would love for more of these to make their way into the world!

I printed the pictured version on a Makergear M3 with PLA filament. The iris is a bit finicky; small print errors will keep the leaves from opening. When it prints correctly, the only needed steps is to cut small tabs on the bottom of the print.
