Plant Grafter
Cutting tool that that uses replaceable, low-cost blades
Engineering Design, Spring 2011, Teammates: Kate Kryder, Kyle Siegal, & James Best
Concept
We designed and built a plant-grafting tool that used standard disposable razor blades for a horticulture client. The tool was both portable and could be mounted to a table for use in a greenhouse.
Role
I machined the aluminum arms and tested the needed squeeze-force and the durability of the tool.
Provisional Patent
After encouragement from our advising professor, we applied for a provisional patent for the grafter and handed over the tool, design, and documents to the client.
